Viscose knit fabric, modal and lyocell briefs.
A viscose knit fabric enquiry should distinguish viscose from modal and lyocell and state any blend percentages clearly. Viscose, modal and lyocell are distinct fibre identities. When enquiring about a knitted fabric, specify the fibre and any blend percentages instead of relying only on a description such as “soft” or “silky”. The knit construction, yarn and finishing route also influence the final drape and handle.
Send a reference sample or describe the garment you are developing. We review the requested material, opacity, weight and usable width with the construction and order quantity. If elastane is included, specify the stretch and recovery requirements separately.
Your material brief.
| Specification | What to confirm for your order |
|---|---|
| Fibre identity | State viscose, modal or lyocell and the requested blend percentages. |
| Brand requirement | Name a required branded fibre explicitly and request the supporting identification. |
| Garment behaviour | Describe drape, opacity, handle and fit expectations. |
| Care and testing | Identify dimensional stability, pilling and other relevant tests under the intended care process. |
| Order planning | Include sample requirements, colour quantities and target delivery date. |
Approve the sample and the supply scope.
Branded fibre names and environmental claims require the corresponding material and documentation. A generic fibre description should not be presented as a branded material. Tell us what your customer needs to verify so that the sourcing route can be evaluated before the order is agreed.
Approve a physical fabric sample and a written specification for the chosen programme. Availability, production feasibility, minimum quantities and delivery timing are confirmed in the quotation.

Before you confirm your fabric order.
When comparing a viscose knit fabric with modal or lyocell alternatives, keep the garment brief and finished measurements consistent. Ask for the exact fibre identity and confirm whether a branded fibre is required. Review drape, opacity and handle using the actual sample, then agree the care and dimensional stability requirements for the intended garment.
For a bulk viscose knit fabric order, provide the construction, usable width, finished GSM and quantity by colour. Explain any stretch, print or finishing requirement before sample approval. A material substitution should be reviewed as a change to the specification rather than accepted only because the new sample feels similar.
For material-claim background, see Textile Exchange standards. Confirm which current standard and documentation apply to the material you request.
Viscose knit fabric: specification questions
Describe the degree of drape, surface smoothness and garment weight you want to assess. Specify viscose, modal or lyocell clearly; these names should not be treated as interchangeable in the purchasing specification. Where a blend or elastane is requested, include all fibre percentages.
Approving viscose knit fabric for your collection
Evaluate the finished article in the construction and colour being proposed. Record the usable width, target GSM and relevant wash requirements. If a branded fibre is essential to the brief, ask for the appropriate material identification and documentation before approving the order.
Planning bulk and repeat requirements
Separate quantities by colour and article, and identify the first order independently from any later forecast. Include the delivery destination and the sampling stage you have reached. If you are comparing alternative materials, request quotations against the same finished requirements so differences in composition, processing and delivery scope remain visible to your team.
